How To Bake Your Face

If you’ve never heard about “baking” your face, don’t worry – it has nothing to do with you being in the kitchen. But if you’re frustrated with your makeup creasing or vanishing halfway through the day, or have a big night ahead of you and you want to look absolutely flawless, then baking your makeup will be a game-changer! The baking technique refers to applying a thick layer of translucent powder on foundation and concealer and letting it sit there for 5-10 minutes so your body heat can “bake” the products underneath.

As simple as it sounds, trying any new makeup technique can be tricky at first, so here’s everything you need to know about baking your face without an epic fail.

Step 1. Prime baby, prime

As always, the first step is to properly prep and prime your skin. That means following your usual skincare routine – cleanse, moisturize – with a twist of applying hydrating eye cream since your under-eye area is the one that’s most likely to crease, and keeping it moist and hydrated won’t give you that dry look.

Step 2. Apply foundation

Once your skincare absorbs and sets, move on to applying foundation like you normally would and blend thoroughly, ideally with a damp makeup sponge. For baking your makeup, it’s probably best to avoid powdered foundation so that it doesn’t look cakey as you layer on the products.

Step 3. Conceal

This is a crucial step when baking your makeup. Apply liquid concealer under your eyes to brighten and refresh that area and any other imperfections you’d like to neutralize, like redness around the nose or red spots. Whether you’re using nude or colored concealer, don’t be shy with it and blend it thoroughly with a damp sponge.

Step 4. Bake

Final step – use a fluffy makeup brush to apply translucent powder like our Perfect Stay Finishing Powder to any concealed areas of your face that are most likely to crease with time, focusing on under your eyes. Avoid putting too much pressure on the brush so that the makeup underneath doesn’t move or smudge, and do be generous with the powder, even if it feels like you’re wearing WAY too much makeup. Once you’re done applying, let it sit there and bake for 5-10 minutes.

Step 5. Brush off the excess powder

Once your makeup is baked, use the same fluffy brush you used to dust the powder on your face to wipe off the excess and smooth it out. If you’re not happy with the result, you can spray a little hydrating mist and apply more powder before applying the rest of the makeup.
